The collaboration between Echa and Lamin is an exciting and refreshing addition to the music scene, showcasing Africa's rich heritage through a captivating mix of sounds. By harmoniously interweaving the kora from West Africa with the mbira/kalimba from Southern Africa, they create a unique sonic experience. The addition of traditional griot singing from Gambia and the lively jazz influence of the saxophone elevates their music to new heights and offers listeners a completely immersive journey. Their debut album, ‘Living’, is a testament to their artistry and innovation, and is available on all streaming platforms.

Lamin Kuyateh

Born in Gambia, he was immersed in culture from an early age: from the age of five, he trained as a kora player. He is a true “jalli” (griot), aka someone who passes on history through song and music. The Fiscoband, which he founded in 1993, was one of the first groups to combine the kora with Western instruments. Lamin Kuyateh has lived in the Netherlands since 1996 and has performed with his Jalliya Ensemble at many festivals and venues, such as the Concertgebouw, Tivoli Vredenburg, Melkweg, Philips Centrum and the Schiecentrale.
